Smart websites with content managers

Go smart — built your site on a content manager!

A content manager, also known as CM system, is a web publishing system. With such a system it is possible for everybody to edit the content of their own site, once it is up and running. No special training is required, and no software needs to be installed on your own computer. As long as you can handle an ordinary PC and a simple word processor, you can do the work yourself.

There are many different CM systems available, some of them free. They have different properties and are suitable for different purposes. We offer our clients the free web publishing system “Wordpress”.

This site is an example of a site powered by Wordpress. With Wordpress you can create pages with dynamic content, like the pages of a news site. You can use dynamic pages to post the latest news on your site. You can use it as a “blog” — a journal where you share your own thoughts with your readers about whatever you find interesting. But Wordpress aslo offers the possibility to create ordinary, static pages, suitable for information that don’t change very often. In all, it is an ideal tool for small businesses.

A special kind of CM system is a photo gallery. To a photo gallery you can easily upload pictures on the Internet and make them public. There are some free services for this on the Internet, like Flickr or Picasaweb. Although great, those services give you no real control over the way your photos show. If you have your own website, you can also have your own photo gallery on the Internet. We offer several different free gallery systems. Here is a sample: Singapore. The “look and feel” is designed by us, the photos are provided by the site owner.

What is a colibri?

Colibri is a native Caribbean word for hummingbird. The first Portuguese sailors who explored the islands east of America adopted this name for the charming little birds, and that is what they are still called in many European languages. And in French Canadian too — look at a box with a hummingbird feeder in your garden store! On the “French” side of the box you will read: “Abreuvoir pour Colibris”.

The birds are native to Saltspring Island and very popular.
